Hi, I am Katie Hamer, co-founder of Siouxland Made. I am not from around here, but I have fallen in love with living in the Loess Hills, the farmer’s market, my favorite coffee spot downtown, and my husband, Jason…which I probably should have said first ;).

I grew up in Kansas City, and lived in Omaha for the last decade. Jason and I met during the pandemic and got married in 2021. After the youngest of my four daughters moved out of the house in 2025 and I finally made the move to Sioux City permanent. And I love it here!

Jason, the other co-founder of Siouxland Made, grew up in LeMars and has lived in Siouxland pretty much his entire life. Some of you may know him as the guy that made you the best BBQ you ever tasted at the Kylie Qs BBQ food truck. Since I am writing this about him, I feel like I can brag and also validate this claim as I eat his cooking pretty much every night.

The idea for Siouxland Made started one night while being frustrated that my schedule wasn’t open when the farmer’s market was open. The fresh veggies were available locally, but I couldn’t figure out how to get my hands on them that weekend. I thought, Sioux City needs a farm stop or coop or somewhere I can buy from local vendors easily, EVERY week.

We hope a permanent location is the future of Siouxland Made, but first, we decided to start a website to coordinate times to pre-order and pick up fresh local goods.

And we thought, if we were going to create the website, why not include all the other local businesses (like my favorite coffee shop), and get the word out about all of the fun stuff going on there.

And then we thought…maybe people would want some BBQ too. And now we have a website where you can find out who, when, and where your favorite trucks are set up.

As I keep thinking of more local wonders in Siouxland, I keep adding them to this site.

If you have an idea on how to make it easier to shop local…please send it my way and hopefully we can make this a place that really is all the local things, all in one place.
